You are welcome to hold your wedding at the Chapel in the Hills. The Chapel and grounds are a beautiful place for this sacred event. It is our prayer that each wedding celebrated here will carry with it a special blessing from our Lord Jesus Christ.
Pastors supplied by the Chapel are ordained ELCA Lutheran clergy and are responsible for the services over which they preside. They will meet with you and the witnesses 30 minutes prior to your scheduled wedding time. All relevant instructions and the order of service will be discussed at that time. No other rehearsal will be held. If you choose to use your own pastor or officiant, South Dakota law states that he/she must be authorized by a church to solemnize marriages.
Please have your valid South Dakota marriage license with you and present it to the pastor when you arrive. Marriage licenses may be purchased at any county courthouse in South Dakota. You will need two witnesses to sign the marriage license the day of the ceremony. We can provide the witnesses if necessary.
The Chapel has a two manual organ. The Chapel organist is available for all weddings, inside or outside. If you chose not to use the Chapel organist, you are welcome to provide your own organist or other music. However, it should be noted that the Chapel cannot be reserved or closed for any rehearsal or practice.
Our wedding season is from April 1st through October 30th. Our tourism season is May 1st to September 30th. We schedule weddings at specific times: 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm & 5:30 pm. Your reservation is for 2 hours and begins 1/2 hour before the ceremony time. For example: If you choose to be married at 1:30, your reserved time is from 1:00 to 3:00. Wedding times are firm and cannot be changed.
Wedding ceremonies usually are held inside the Chapel or in one of two areas outside. When making a reservation, please indicate your desired location. Your location choice may be changed at any time by contacting the Chapel office.
